"i mi wa?" or 「意味は」as the app is now being called roughly translates to "Whats the meaning?". The spoken pronunciation guide works great. UPDATE: the new red/green interface is...distracting. It would be nice to have the old black/white UI as an option.

I got this app quite a while ago, and it was nice enough. I hadnt used it in ages, since before the name changed and WOW... Its got everything you could ever need now! And you can search by just about any method you want.

Extremely handy app when I was studying in Japan. I didnt have a smart phone with data access but I had my iPhone with this app which acted as my electronic dictionary. I liked how it didnt need Internet to look up the words and it looked up words in English, all three Japanese alphabets (hiragana, katakana, and kanji), and Romanji. Also when kanji ever came up, there was a hiragana translation. I also liked the kanji look up via radicals, extremely easy to use and handy. One thing I am not thrilled about is the default frequently used search option that always seemed to be highlight as soon a new search is done, which is a minor annoyance for an overall amazing app.

This is simply the best Japanese-English dictionary Ive ever used. easy searching with SKIP and radicals, multiple bookmark lists for study and reference, animation of every kanji being written, usage examples, and more.

The fact that everyone is eating 5 stars should be enough to convince you. This is an excellent reference tool for a plethora of Japanese language needs you may have!!

This app is by far the best application for learning and studying Japanese. It helps with stroke order of kanji, meanings, and if youre new to the language you can always search the word youre looking for in English, whether its the romanized word or English word. Highly recommended.

I took Japanese since 2012, its a great tool

The exhaustiveness of this dictionary is wonderful. They have all the right forms, translations, sentence examples, etc. I have tried many other Japanese dictionaries, as well as phrase books. I wish I had this app when I went to Japan. Communicating clearly would have been much easier. Definitely worth it.

Works well. I recommend learning katakana and hiragana first, though.

Overall the best digital dictionary app for Japanese Ive come across. Could do with more examples with past tense, short as well as long form, polite and humble conjugations. Speaking of examples be prepared to come across some incredibly dirty ones (good for a laugh once in a while but maybe not great for young learners). It would also nice to see the verb and adjective type more clearly stated and searchable. i.e. る、う、い、な、irreg.

This is the best japanese app to have, whether youre studying the language, or travelling in Japan. Ive tried others, but this one is indispensable

This is a great app. Its very useful for translating from Japanese to English and English to Japanese. Its also useful for learning kanji. But the latest update has produced some problems with the way it displays on my phone. Items in the list of results overlap. Same for the words in the school kanji study lists. I still give it four stars because Im sure this problem will be fixed soon.

This app is a thing of beauty. Search words in either language, using english or japanese input, see definitions, examples, kanji stroke order, the list goes on. Very sleek interface, especially the iOS7 redesign. The dict db is a huge download, but it is worth every byte!

This app is amazing for looking stuff up. I use it and it helps me a lot. What would be good though would be if you could search more than one word at a time rather than just showing no results when its more than one word. Other than that, the app is great!

If youre going to use any Japanese language app, it has to be this one. Its got tons of extremely useful features for each word, like animated stroke orders, verb conjugations, example sentences, a personal note option, and more. The icing on the cake is it works offline. LOVE IT!!
