imiwa? App Reviews

This app is NECESSARY and will be the crowning jewel of all your Japanese learning apps/programs/books. I would hug the creator if I could --IT EVEN WORKS OFFLINE!!!!! The design is flawless and intuitive, and the app is LOADED with content.

This is (in my opinion) one of the best app for checking and looking up kanjis. If you need to review stroke patterns, 音読み/訓読み, or quickly analyze a Japanese phrase I would definitely recommend this app.

I dont normally write reviews, but the imiwa? app is so fantastic I had to share my enthusiasm. In my experience of studying Japanese for a year and a half (and with looking into many resources and apps), I have to say that imiwa? is the best there is out there (in the free dictionary market anyway). I am so happy with it that I dont feel the need to invest in another dictionary. It would be wonderful to have audio to go with the words, but this is still a fantastic app. It has so many features, including customized vocabulary lists (with the option to make sublists). Do yourself a favor and download this app. You wont regret it!

The best and most useful Japanese / English app I have ever used. Type in English or Japanese it knows to give you the opposite translation. Great usage examples.

Still testing out the tools, but already, I can see that its high-quality. Way better than I expected. Im really impressed!!

It works fine on my IPhone 4 but it wont even get past the menu screen on my IPad.

This is the best app Ive tried - it has everything a student of Japanese needs for comprehensive learning.

I have been using this app ever since I started studying Japanese, very helpful and handy and this app was recommended by sensei before I took up my first basic course. The only problem I encountered right now is sending a back-up file thru email. I have been doing that for so long but this time I wont send it thru my email. I want to update my 2 iPads with the lists on my iphone but I wont work. Im not sure maybe because of iOS compatibility, because I recently updated to iOS 9, I do hope you could fix this problem or make an update for this app. Once again really awesome app and keep improving this app more! More power guys!

Ive been through tons of English Japanese dictionaries and this is the best one. Even amongst paid apps

Having lived in and gone to school in Japan as a foreigner, I can definitely say there were times I needed a little extra help. This dictionary is wonderful, its increased my vocabulary, gives great examples and phrases, and has SKIP, so youre always able to identify or find the word youre looking for. There were times where even Japanese friends would borrow my phone to look up Kanji, or English words. It can also be a life saver when trying to communicate with other (non English speaking) foreigners as there are often multiple languages available with a word. I would definitely recommend it to anyone learning Japanese or visiting Japan, you find anything better.

The developer could easily charge for this. What an awesome guy that he doesnt. No ads, no stupid popups. And its the best Japanese dictionary Ive found on the app store

Imiwa supports conjugation and out-of-date usage; many other powerful dictionary apps dont. Look up words in your native language or in Japanese using romaji, kana or kanji. Break down entire phrases in Analyzer from your clipboard. Look up kanji by SKIP, multi-radical, JLPT level, grade level, more. Learn stroke order, radical, readings, compounds. Best app, hands down. Thank you, thank you.

The app will only partially download and will not finish- and then gives me a " app can not download at this time" Ive tried several times;((

Has so many good features and makes everything so much easier. I like it a lot.

I love the app so much. I tend to look up a word I dont know somewhat quickly. Just one suggestion to make the app even better than it already is. Add a section where we can search the kanji faster by actually drawing/using stroke order! If you can that would be great but it is good as it is too! 好きだよ。

I just had my first visit to Japan, and I dont speak Japanese, and phone/internet use is sometimes limited there, so all the fancier automatic translation apps I had that depended on internet were not so helpful. THIS app was always there for me, and with such an amazing selection of definitions for each word, finding the right word(s) for a situation was easy. Its so thoughtfully put together, its like the OED, it inspires you to dig further and get poetic, even when conversing in one-word sentences!
