Mto bom.
Vale a pena baixar. :)
Aprende o significado, como escreve e como usar.
Simplesmente Espetacular.
The app is incredible. The formatting is amazing- and the sentence analyzer is something I’ve never seen before. It’s so wonderful to just copy paste and look at a sentence and save the words you don’t understand. High praises to the developer. This can’t have been easy, and it’s seriously so incredible. That said, I find there are two things that keep it from being the best Japanese dictionary. 1. No option to show pitch accent. Pitch accent is a major part of Japanese, and Japanese dictionaries (and others) have it listed. The data is there, but the option to show it is not. 2. No way easy way export to Anki. Takaboto on Android spoiled me with how easy it was to send flash cards over. Imiwa is currently (at least on my phone) incapable of even sending or saving tab separated words. The first problem is clearly a bigger deal than the second. But if these two things were possible, this app would crush all JE, EJ dictionaries.
I've been IB using this app since middle school! It's one of the best Japanese learning aids ever! If you are rusty and just need a little practice or reminders here or there It's perfect! ❤️
I’ve been using this app for 10 years now and it has always been an invaluable asset. The interface is clean and intuitive, I’ve never encountered any bugs, and it has every feature I’ve ever needed.
I’ve been using this app since I started taking Japanese classes 5 years ago. I love how each word comes with example sentences and different readings! I used to read the example sentences and guess the translations as a fun way to learn new words. Also in the search bar it predicts other combinations using that particular kanji, including old sayings and metaphorical phrases. It’s been a solid tool in my language learning and I highly recommend to anyone who’s learning Japanese!
Why is the app size so huge??!!??? I’ve been using this app for maybe a decade now, because it is the best one as a Japanese learner. But it’s always had the one same flaw- ginormous app size, nearing 1gb. This is inexcusable, for a dictionary app of all things. I may have slightly more phone space than I did 10 years ago, but this still is a pain in the butt, and imiwa is still the largest app on my phone (!). If you need help with optimization, seriously, please reach out, I know folks that could help with this and this would be the one thing that makes imiwa perfect. :(
For a Japanese dictionary this app is probably the most helpful I have encountered. I especially like that it can guide you through the stroke order of Kanji. If you’re learning Japanese this is definitely a great app to have in the back pocket!
This Japanese dictionary is the best! I’ve been using it off and on for at least 8 years, it’s never failed. Whenever I wanted to know what a Japanese word meant, this never failed to deliver! Or if I wanted to know how to say something in Japanese, さすけね!
i absolutely love this app!!! it’s been so helpful in my learning. i’ve honestly never had so much respect for an app before. please check it out if you’re interested in learning japanese and looking for good resources!!
It’s the best app ever and IT DOESNT COLLECT ANY OF YOUR DATA!! Every other app does and it’s so weird!! I’m so glad this app doesn’t collect unnecessary data to sell me anything. And it has amazing features, the best dictionary app for sure
Love this app, it even got me a wife and a few great friends. Wondering if there's any chance of supporting exporting favorites lists/history out to flashcards apps like Anki and Wanikani.
This dictionary is more than I ever thought to dream of in a dictionary. I don't use any other, and I tell everyone with an iOS device about it. If they made it for Android, I would be able to switch phones. I could go on in my review about everything it does, but let's save time. Read the description, download this free *offline* dictionary, play with it, and marvel at it.
Imiwa, my beloved 🖤 I’ve been using this app since I think 2014? I’ve always been ahead of my classes in Japanese by far and never doubted it was greatly due to the help of this app. Nothing compares. N o t h i n g. I recommend it to everyone learning Japanese whether they ask or not. I couldn’t imagine getting as far as I have- or continuing studying without it.
This is the best dictionary app available I believe. This is my number one ☝️ go to Japanese dictionary. ( I also have another Japanese dictionary language app I like 👍🏾 and it’s my number two app. I only use it because it’s a Kanji reader). I have tried so many Dictionaries and I keep coming back to “IMIWA”. ALL you beginners who are learning Japanese, I recommand this app to you. However, you who know a little more like JLPT, analysing, reading, Vocabulary, Grammar and etc., YOU WILL LOVE THIS APP. I hope I peaked your interest enough that you will open up this app and view it.
Thank you so so much this helps me a lot especially the analyzer tab, I owe you so much to what i learned so far
This app is so great. I can enter English or Japanese. One of my favorite things is that I can select text in a post or Website and then open Imiwa and the text will automatically be there with translations. So easy and convenient.
How do you make a Japanese dictionary app and not include calligraphic search capability? I have 2 other apps that both allow you to draw kanji to search, which is often times much quicker and easier than searching with SKIP/radicals. I looked for this feature for 10 minutes and I guess it doesn’t have it. I’ve heard this is a great app, but I would love to see this feature added and I would consider trying this app.
Wish the way multi-pronunciation was handled better; ie separate entries for different readings and spellings Pleco handles that aspect better
So i’ve been reliant on this app for about 6 years now. I esp like that I can make my own notes for an entry. But recently a few instances have come up whereby I’ll ask Japanese friends for some clarification on meaning/usage, and they’ll outright disagree with this app. True, their experience with the word may be limited, and a native user doesn’t necessarily a comprehensive understanding of their own language. The few times it’s happened I hadn’t saved the words to look up later in my regular Japanese 辞典. But it’s been enough for me to begin doubting this dictionary a little bit and wondering if I shouldn’t seek a “second opinion.” Edit to add: Occasionally, the examples are a bit unhelpful, as well. Take 消化不良 (しょうかふりょう). There are 2 example sentences, the second one of which is: 消化不良です。 I snorted out my drink at that one, and so did a Japanese friend. Like, “Can you give me an example of a sentence using ‘indigestion?’” “Sure: “‘It’s indigestion.‘” —It’s since become a running joke with us. “はい、消化不良です!“ (Also, not sure if this is just how imiwa? is integrated with the keyboards on one’s phone, or if it has nothing to do with imiwa?... But in case it does—In the past year I notice the handwriting board restricts you to a quick and uniform rhythm of writing the strokes; if you hesitate even a moment longer before finishing writing the kanji, it will just auto generate something straight into the imiwa? search bar. Super frustrating. It used to be that I could take my time trying to remember how to write something, but now no, now I spend time erasing what was auto-generated and starting over.)
Ive tried a lot of the translation apps, and none can touch this app. It provides an incredible amount of extremely useful information about each word. I like it for the following reasons: (1) has very accurate, nuanced and detailed definitions in multiple languages (2) provides info about what each kanji means (both as the whole word and broken down into individual kanji elements) (3) provides the grammatical structure of the word (e.g. it is an intransitive verb, い or な adjective, etc.) (4) provides all of the forms/conjugations of verbs and adjectives (e.g. present tense, past tense, ongoing, etc.). (5) provides kanji, hiragana, and romanji (6) has easy-to-access links to similar and related words (7) enter full sentences and it will break down each piece of vocab in the sentence (8) lets you know if the kana or kanji is more commonly used (9) has language cards you can practice that are organized according to both JLPT and school grade levels of difficulty (10) can bookmark and write notes (11) very nice “copy and paste” function (12) lots of kanji info: kanji brush strokes, info about radicals, lists other words using the same kanji radicals, etc. There are other apps with similar features (e.g. “Shitabe Jisho” and “Japanese”) but Imiwa is much cleaner and easy to read.
Great dictionary but can't export out in a usable format. Please fix
Multi radical Kanji search, example sentences, search by romaji (so no need to use Japanese keyboard!), kanji ordered by Japanese grade level and JLPT exam... The list of amazing features this app has just goes on and on. Not to mention all with a seamless, intuitive UI. I am a college student studying Japanese, and this app is incredibly helpful for not only understanding meanings of words, but the numerous example sentences help capture the nuance (the hardest part of a word to learn) as well. Get this app if you know what’s good for you.
I recently discovered the auto clipboard lookup feature, it’s just so useful I felt compelled to leave a review. As someone self studying Japanese this is such a valuable resource. The only improvements I can think of would be more options to turn off displaying some information. It can be a bit overwhelming to have so much information displayed, I want to be able to trim the fat so to say. ありがとございます。
Best cross reference dictionary. It has good example of sentences, and it's easy to check what the meaning is of the kanji. Everything else out there is junk.
While using this dictionary as an abroad student, I’ve been able to get a lot of use from it to help my Japanese learning, however the app has some big glaring issues. + The kanji database and info is great, usually giving clear definitions, as well as added Chinese readings. - Main issue lies with fact that the definitions for non simple words are usually poor. Either a group of synonyms can have the same translation with no nuance, or the translations are too broad with sometimes 12 different meanings. Moreover, the example sentences for words are near useless, with suspect Japanese translations, and sometimes fully incorrect English translations. They’re almost always overly complicated and hard to understand. In summary, a good kanji app, that will sometimes help you understand a Japanese word’s English meaning.
I like the features of this app a lot, but I do wish that there was a way to deselect a word after accidentally adding it to a list.
Imiwa is the BEST English-Japanese dictionary out there. Actually it's the best cross-language dictionary I've used period. Although I admit, I mostly look at free ones, often paid ones I find are junk. Imiwa makes it so easy to look up terms in romaji, or if you've installed Japanese keyboards on your phone/ipad you can look up by hiragana or kanji directly. If you install the one Chinese keyboard that lets you draw the characters it's even better. Once you've found a word, you can see example sentences, when they are available. You can also see the breakdown of the kanji in the word, and continue to see what that particular kanji means. The kanji definitions have all the readings, radicals, and brush strokes. Imiwa lets you have multiple lists. I save lists for fun phrases, cool words, kanji I need to study, and (when that was a concern) words for the different JLPT levels. ...I use it a lot in the car to look up a Japanese lyric I just heard. Or a random word I suddenly realize I don't know the Japanese word for but I should. If you are studying Japanese, or even if you just like anime, it's a no-brainer to install Imiwa on your phone.
I’ve been studying Japanese for quite a while now, and this app has been the one that has the most vocabulary. If the word has kanji, it tells you the origin, the strokes and similar kanji. Very recommended.
His app has been a lifesaver as I have to communicate with people in Japan through email and messengers. I just copy the text and voila! It automatically loads in the analyzer so I can read it in furigana and look up more difficult words. The only thing I can’t figure out is an easy way to create kanji flash cards once I look up words. Is there an easy way to do this??
I’ve used this app since 2009! For Native English Speakers, this is better than any app or expensive Electronic Dictionary I’ve ever seen. This app coupled with google translate is all the dictionaries a Japanese student needs!!
I’ve downloaded and used pretty much every Japanese language app available for iOS. This has been my go-to app Japanese app for almost a decade now. Being able to create dictionary lists, import and export those lists, create flashcards from the lists, and find almost any word I’ve come across with example sentences has spoiled me to no end. All of this with a great UI and for free no less! It’s not been without its bugs from time to time, but I’ve found they always get addressed with updates. Did I mention it’s free and has been going strong for over 9 years? If you enjoy this app as much as I have, you should seriously consider donating to the developer’s PayPal account.
This is super amazing app for me.Everybody should use it,if you are dealing with Japanese people or Learning Japanese. The developer made up really details such as examples, changing words according to forms as well. This app is so handy.I'm really love this app.More than helpful what I hoped!
I get better results when I type verbs in in Spanish for some reason? Still miles better than any other useless app on the App Store. Very great, wish I’d found this one sooner...

From the first time I opened this app with some kanji on the clipboard this app has been a revelation. This so much more than just a dictionary, it’s an instructional translator, a study tool, and so much more. If there’s one language app that’s actually worth throwing money at, this is it. Absolutely fantastic.
I’ve used this app for 2,5 years And This is the best app on the app store. There is nothing else to say. Period.
I am a lazy person who almost never takes the time to write reviews on the apps I use frequently but I love this app so much that I *needed* to write this. imiwa? has a number of fantastic features. The analyze capability with the auto-clipboard lookup is incredibly useful. Along with the examples sentences and its verb conjugation ability, the app is definitely my go-to when reading Japanese texts.
I’ve been using Imiwa (and before it, Kotoba) since I first installed it on an iPod touch years ago. For value and sheer awesome usefulness, it can’t be beat, and the fact that all the wonderfulness happens without an internet connection makes it all the better. I just checked here to make sure it works in the latest OS version; I kinda want to upgrade my phone but can’t go there if Imiwa can’t go there with me. It’s that good
I think this is a must for learning Japanese. One suggestion though, I think adding some sort of graph for Pitch Accent would make it even better, since for example the pronunciation for 家具 (furniture) and 嗅ぐ(To smell) sounds absolutely the same, so having a Pitch Accent graph will help with differentiate and learn about the native sound. It could be either for each word (such hassle) or a general graph of how to identify the pitch for most words. Anyways great work, it is really appreciated!
Easily the best app for learning/translating Japanese and somehow it’s free! Thank you dev(s) ❤️
I've never seen an app like this! It's completely dynamic! All the grades (kanjis)... Falling in love for this great app one! SIMPLY THE BEST APP FOR JAPANESE LEARNERS!
As I get back into Japanese study, I have to use this dictionary because I gave away all my printed books. I am finding it delightful to use. Things I especially like: 1) It automatically takes the copied characters and looks them up. (I don't have to paste them in.) 2) I am enjoying having example sentence. 3) It looks like the definitions are more comprehensive that I remember from JMdict. Thank you.
Imiwa has been a fantastic aid whenever I've been studying Japanese in school. All of its features are very handy. With the examples included in (most of) the definitions, it's easy to figure out what part of speech a word is, as well as to learn whether the word you tapped is the one that you actually want to use. I only wish that the app was a little smaller in size. •~•
This is by far the best electronic Japanese Dictionary I’ve ever used. So simple and beautiful!!! I don’t use anything else and I always recommend it to everyone... however I hope they can add a camera function to make kanji translations easier and quicker...
I no longer have to interrupt my mother's conversations to ask the meaning of a word. Seriously helpful, I've learned a lot of new words! Thank you!!!
This app is amazing and I recommend it to anyone who has proficient to advanced capability in Japanese language. If your new to Japanese, it’s going to take time until you start actually understanding the example sentences for certain vocabulary words. Before the enormous update for this app, it was kinda fuzzy though honestly.
For a free program this dictionary is excellent, the only thing it lacks to be perfect (for me at least) is recognition of drawn kanji which is very useful when searching. I’ve tried lots of similar dictionaries but this one is the only one I’ve kept over the years.
Unable to download
UPDATE 11/21: Taking one star away since as of the new version, there are two really annoying bugs that make the app much harder to use. When viewing example sentences, only the first line of each translation is displayed until the example is scrolled past (vanishes from view). When you view the example again, the full translation is then visible. This workaround doesn’t always work because not every example can be scrolled past. The other bug is that the search icon on the top right doesn’t work sometimes when viewed from an entry. The magnifying glass overlaps with an “X” and stops working. I’m not sure how exactly to reproduce this but it happens often enough. *** This is by far the best Japanese dictionary app that has ever graced the App Store, bar none. It's simple to use and extremely effective, allowing you to look up the definitions you need at lightning speed. The devs deserve a big thank you for keeping the app free all these years. As of iOS 11, there are a few small bugs in the UI (eg the search icon on the top right didn’t seem to work sometimes when viewed directly from a dictionary entry). Hopefully the devs can get that fixed as it’s a bit annoying when you’re looking up many words at a go and have to hit an extra key to go back each time.
I've downloaded so many Japanese apps over the years and this is the one I keep coming back to. Thank you so much for the recent updates! I was getting worries about what I would do if the app were no longer supported on iOS.
